25 Apr 2017 | 13:54:01 UTC Action may be required: TRP-Sieve is now shut down.
The TRP Sieve project has come to an end, and work generation for that subproject has stopped. While there will be a few recycled tasks available for a short time, eventually they will all be gone.

If TRP-Sieve is the only PrimeGrid subproject you're running, you should select another of our subprojects to run. We suggest GCW-Sieve. It's very similar to TRP-Sieve.

Since TRP-Sieve previously was automatically assigned to new users, if you've never explicitly selected which subproject to run, there's a good chance your computer is currently configured to TRP-Sieve. Please go to the PrimeGrid preferences page to change your preferences.

For discussion and more information, please see this forum thread.

29 Apr 2017 | 16:05:11 UTC New sub-project: GCW-LLR
We have opened up a new subproject, GCW-LLR. It is a CPU-only project. Task sizes are initially very small, but I expect them to grow in size fairly rapidly. There is a new set of badges for the GCW-LLR project.

Please see this thread in the GCW forum for more details and discussion.

Sometime in late October we have to start paying for RackSpace. We intend to be up and running before then.

Lead time on our hardware is about a month, so it will be close.

We'll be at Rackspace for another year, so we're saving money in 2018.

The last few months have been a bit confusing. We've been given an extra year of free hosting at Rackspace and now expect to be there through the end of 2018. This, of course, happened after we'd purchased servers and set them up in a datacenter. The current plan is to keep one of the two new servers as a contingency during the next year, while repurposing the second server outside of PrimeGrid, essentially recouping half the expense of both the hardware and the datacenter fees. That will save us money, leave us in a better position in case something unexpected happens with regards to Rackspace, and next fall we'll (re)purchase the second server and go back to our originally plan. Assuming nothing changes in the next year.

WE ARE MOVING!!!

This Friday we will be migrating PrimeGrid to the new servers.

Expect both PrimeGrid and PRPNet to be completely offline for several hours, or even a day or two if things go sideways badly. Everything will be down, including the forums. We'll keep you informed of progress on our Discord server.

If you're wondering what time on Friday, I don't know yet. However, Jim and I both live in the -5:00 timezone, and we're not going to do this while we're sleeping.

Eine neue Anwendung für Mega-Primes wurde eingeführt:
Do You Feel Lucky?

23 Feb 2019 | 18:06:29 UTC Forum threads locked after a year
Effective immediately, forum threads will be automatically locked one year after the most recent post. If a thread has been inactive for a year, it's better to start a new thread than to reactivate a moribund thread.

If you need to reference something in the old thread, you can always link to the original post or thread using the
http://www.primegrid.com/something...
tag.

Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun Prime Search
As soon as possible after the current challenge ends. We want to give people as much time as possible to run WW before they switch their GPUs over to GFN for the December challenge. If there's no unexpected problems, it will probably happen within a few days of the challenge ending. Or a few hours. It depends on if there are any unforeseen problems.

The following projects are shutting down on, or shortly after, the following dates:
  • October 4th: (Previously announced) The CPU portion of PPS-Sieve will be shut off.
  • October 15th: GFN-15 is very small compared to the computing power of today's computers, and it's no longer eligible for the Top 5000 Primes list.
  • November 15th: SGS has succeeded in its goals of finding an SGS pair and a twin pair at n=1290000 and will be shut down. It's possible we may start a new SGS search at a higher n sometime in the future.
  • December 15th: PPSE is exceptionally unlikely to ever find a Fermat divisor, is very small, and is no longer eligible for the Top 5000 Primes list.
  • January 15th, or 30 days after CW-Sieve ends, whichever is later: The GPU portion of PPS-Sieve. This sieve has advanced very far ahead of the PPS projects, and the sieving being done today won't be needed for many years. This sieve is being suspended until more work is needed. In the future it is possible that we may sieve a small subset of k's currently being sieved.
  • March 15th, or 60 days after CW-Sieve ends, whichever is later: AP27 has achieved its goal of finding an AP27 and will shut down. It's extremely unlikely that we will find an AP 28 with the current hardware and software.
