The goal of FreeRainbowTables.com is to prove the insecurity of using simple hash routines to protect valuable passwords, and force developers to use more secure methods.
By distributing the generation of rainbow chains, we can generate HUGE rainbow tables that are able to crack longer passwords than ever seen before.
Furthermore, we are also improving the rainbow table technology, making them even smaller and faster than rainbow tables found elsewhere, and the best thing is, those tables are freely available to download from our site!
It is perfectly legal. Is it legal or moving into the greyzone?
You can view this project like a gun. It can be used to defend yourself(by testing your own security), but it can also be used to attack others.
Abuse of the tables are out of my control. But to abuse these tables, you first need to retrieve the hashes from a server. If you got those, your already inside the system and probably have root/admin access.
Its beta status. I'm still working on fixing the last pieces. (problems with the small txt files downloaded, problems with libgc on Linux clients)Whats the status of the boinc server?
Other than the rainbow table generator, I'm also planning to make the index calculator and false alarm checker for distributed password crackingWhat applications are planned?
However, i still need to think about how to do it. I only want people to freely participate in the hash cracking.
Maybe i will just remove the online hash cracking service.
Its a fixed credit based on the chainlength of the current set.Is there a fixed credit system or how its calculated?
The resulting rainbow tables are used by many security professionals to test the strength of passwords. Is the project useful for anything?
The resulting file per WU is 9mb. Each WU will take ~ 2.5 hours to calculate / core. How much traffic caused by dl/ul?
There is nothing to download (except the binary)
